Home / Literary representation

Getting the book to the right editor.

The work of building and running the submission, with an agent's commission on any deal it produces.

What representation covers

  • Reading, assessment and submission strategy
  • Pitch materials, comparable titles, editor targeting
  • Submission to publishers and follow-up
  • Offer comparison and contract negotiation
  • Translation, audio and adaptation licensing
  • Royalty statement checking and rights reversion
  • Co-agent and scout relationships by territory

What I am looking for

Fiction, non-fiction and children's books, in English, Portuguese, Italian and Spanish. Published or unpublished.

  • Historical fiction, particularly twentieth-century Europe
  • Memoir and testimony with a strong narrative spine
  • Literary and upmarket commercial fiction
  • Illustrated and picture books for children
  • Already published books whose rights are still free
  • Work with clear translation potential across markets

Poetry, academic monographs and technical manuals sit outside what I can usefully place.

What you sign, and what it says.

Representation begins only when a written agreement is signed by you and me. It sets out the works covered, the territories, the term, the work being done, the commission, the notice period, and how often you get accounts.
